Ego

Ego gets a bad rap, but it exists for a reason. The problem isn’t that Ego exists, nor is the solution to eliminate Ego. It’s to have Ego serve its proper function without it taking over.

There is the saying, “Be guided by Spirit, rather than driven by Ego.” That sums up the idea wonderfully. Spirit needs to be our guide. Ego needs to be one of the tools we use in order to follow the guidance of Spirit.

We need Ego to maintain us in our material existence so we can accomplish our life purposes. We need to eat, drink, exercise, and otherwise care for our physical bodies. If the physical body is damaged or broken, we’ll be hampered in our tasks.

Most embodied souls become confused and believe that they are their physical bodies. Ego tries to take over, usurp the role of Spirit. When that happens we devote our energies to maintaining Ego’s position as dictator, which leads to enormous misery.

What is needed is for Ego to resume its proper place as a useful, necessary tool in order for us to follow the guidance of Spirit.

Ego is the servant of Spirit, not Its master.
